Labor Day 2011 - modified trash and recycling collection schedule

Monday, September 5, 2011 - Labor Day - is a recycling and trash collection holiday. After the holiday, all County-provided recycling and trash collections will slide and be one day later than normal.

Tuesday Wednesday, September 7
Wednesday Thursday, September 8
Thursday Friday, September 9
Friday Saturday, September 10

Note: if you (or your community) have a private contract for your trash collection, or if you live in a municipality, these schedule announcements may not apply to your trash service -- check with your hauler or community manager.

The U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon takes place at the National Mall’s West Potomac Park in Washington, D.C. from September 23 to October 2, 2011. Houses designed and built by university teams from across the country -- including the University of Maryland -- and the world face off in 10 contests.

The 21st Annual Metro Washington, DC, Tour of Solar Homes and Buildings -- including many stops in Montgomery County -- will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 1 and 2, 2011.

In addition to their focus on energy, both events also feature numerous examples of reducing, reusing, and recycling.

And speaking of energy... Montgomery County's Residential Energy Efficiency Rebate Program is open for applications! This program offers incentives of up to $3,000 to owner-occupants of single family homes and condominiums who make new energy efficiency improvements.
